The Lockheed Martin Space Physics Laboratory

We are a group of scientists and engineers who have been building scientific instrumentation carried aboard research satellites to study the near earth environment since 1958.  Our main fields of interest and expertise are the physics of the Earth's magnetosphere, plasmasphere, ionosphere, upper atmosphere, as well as the interaction regions between the solar wind and the near-Earth environment.  This also includes the study of auroral physics.  Our studies are facilitated  through  the use   of instrumentation  such  as,  ionionzed  and  neutral particle spectrometers and  counters, various Imaging instruments sampling the photon spectrum from  visible to gamma ray energies, and electromagnetic field probes such as magnetometers. These instruments provide us with a comprehensive picture of the near-Earth environment which is compared to theoretical models.  In addition to the instrumentation our other important product is the publication of our research in refereed scientific journals.
